ROMELDA LAKESIDE RETREAT

Indulge in Serenity and Breathtaking Scenery at our Tented Lodge.

Our tents are designed with your comfort and practicality in mind. Each tent faces the vast, open views over the lake, offering an unobstructed sight of the spectacular sunsets. The tents are located approximately 5-15m from the shoreline, depending on the lake water levels, surrounded by manicured lawns and immaculate gardens featuring indigenous and endemic aloes, an array of shrubs, plants and succulents that attract a variety of small birds. Look out for sunbirds, waxbills, and weavers. Keep an eye on the shoreline and trees nearby for Kingfishers and the elusive African Finfoot amongst other wandering waders.

At our tented lodge, we want you to have the most immersive and unforgettable experience. That's why we offer a range of activities that cater to different interests. If you're feeling adventurous, you can try out guided rhino walks or canoeing, and if you're looking for something more relaxed, you can opt for a sunset cruise or bird watching. Our lodge also offers a swimming pool, perfect for cooling off on a hot day. In the evenings, gather around the campfire with fellow guests and enjoy taking in the breathtaking views of the night sky.

A FAMILY GETAWAY

Our setup includes two tents with a conveniently joint deck for easy access to your children's tent. Additionally, we offer one extra daybed per tent for families with an extra child.

The property is a haven for families with children, offering a wide range of activities to keep them entertained. Here are a few options:

  • Fishing off the jetty is a must-try, and we can provide fishing rods and worms to get started. Catching several nicely-sized bream or a few small bass is a common occurrence.

  • The swimming pool is located in the main area, making it easy for parents to supervise their children. While it's a small plunge pool, the shallow steps offer a great deal of fun for kids.

  • Our spacious garden, with its well-maintained lawn, is perfect for games. Don't forget to bring a ball or two for them to enjoy.

LAKE KYLE

Nestled amongst stunning mountain ranges, the lake was constructed in the 1950s to supply water to lowveld sugar cane farms. The Kyle Recreational Park sits in the heart of the lake, the flats are renowned for sightings of White Rhino, Buffalo, Wildebeest, Giraffe, Zebra, and other plains game. The shoreline is home to a fascinating array of birds throughout the year.

In recent years the lake has shown promising sizes of Bass and an increase in Bream numbers, attracting anglers from across the region to try their luck at 'hooking a hog.'

Romelda Lakeside Retreat offers two types of cruises: a lake cruise for game-viewing, with the option to add a visit to the Dam Wall, or Sunset/River Cruises up the Popoteke (visit the majestic gorge) or the Mutirikwi Rivers.

HISTORY AND CULTURE

While Romelda Lakeside Retreat is located on the opposite side of the lake from the renowned Great Zimbabwe historical monument, we highly recommend taking a full day trip to visit the ruins. The journey itself is quite scenic, with the option to travel around the entire circumference of the lake, passing through the rural farmlands, impressive granite hills and over the Dam Wall. The trip takes approximately an hour and a half without stopping to visit the sights, but we encourage you to take in the beauty of the Chamavara Caves, St. Andrews Chapel (at the Dam Wall) or some of the lovely picturesque laybys along the way.

On the journey back to Romelda, make a quick stop at St. Francis Church (Italian POW Chapel) located just outside the Army Barracks. This cultural circuit is sure to leave you in awe of the rich history of the area.

KYLE RECREATIONAL PARK

Embark on an unforgettable adventure through the National Park - a small yet flourishing haven. You're in for a treat with the White Rhino population, which is sure to provide unforgettable sightings. The park is also home to a wide range of animals such as Buffalo, Giraffe, Zebra, Bushbuck, Wildebeest, Impala, and more.

The National Park Gate is a 30-45 minute drive from Romelda Lakeside Retreat. Alternatively, you can opt for a boat ride to the Mutirikwi Picnic Sight and be collected by National Parks for the once-in-a-lifetime experience of tracking the Rhino by foot or take an escorted Game drive for an up-close encounter with these magnificent creatures.
